November 7, 9:30 to 11:30 . “Providing Stage Based Trauma Therapy in Vancouver’s Inner City.” Lili Clendenning, registered clinical
counselor and case manager, Strathcona team, and Stephen Epp, occupational
therapist, will present on two group-based trauma programs they have recently
completed at the Strathcona team. The introduction to trauma recovery group is
based on the work of Liz Choquette and Maxine Harris. The second stage group is based on the model
of Cognitive Processing Therapy.

November 7, 1:30 to 3:30. “Major Mental Illnesses: what are they, and what can one expect from
team mental health treatment.” Dr. David
Irwin, West End Mental Health Team and Stephan Bunton, Senior Mental Health
Worker, West End Mental Health Team, and a West End
team consumer, T.B.A. In this workshop the presenters will talk
about what constitutes an Axis I disorder, and the complexities involved when
this occurs in the context of trauma, substance abuse, and co-occurring
disorders. As well, there will be an explanation
of the mandate of the mental health teams and an examination of the recovery journey.

November 8, 9:30 to 11:30. “Are you too Sick to Work? The many dilemmas of working while dealing
with a mental illness.” Dr. Anthony
Sehon, West End Mental health team, and Lana Cullis, employment counselor, West
End Mental Health Team. In this workshop
the participants will talk about the number one factor impacting work
productivity, and the healthy workplace—major depression. Common treatments
including medications, hospitalization, talk therapies, and sleep health will
be examined, as well as some problem solving around the common impasses that
people often find themselves in.

November 8, 2:00 to 4:00. “Personality Disorders: what are they, what
causes them, and what can be done about it?”
Dr. Wahan Wanis, West End Mental Health Team, and Charlotte Jackson,
counselor, Vancouver Coastal Addiction Clinics.
In this workshop the presenters will talk about personality disorders
from both a psychiatric and counseling psychology point of view, ultimately
leading to a discussion on the new therapies and techniques that have developed
over the past ten years. Question and answer
