“The Child’s Development of Self in the Family: A Systems Perspective”
A conference from Living Systems

Dates: April 10th and 11th 2015 (8:30-5pm)

Location: SFU Harbour Centre in Fletcher Challenge Theatre (515 W. Hastings Street, Vancouver, BC)

Living Systems presents “The Child’s Development of Self in the Family: A Systems Perspective”, a conference featuring Dr. Daniel Papero, senior faculty of the Bowen Center for the Study of the Family in Washington, DC and Dr. Mark Flinn, chairman of the department of anthropology at the University of Missouri.

Children follow a predictable developmental path, but have variability in the degree they separate emotionally from their families. Bowen Theory views the development of the individual as inseparable from the development of the family. This conference will explore family variables that help determine variation in the child’s ability to develop a responsible and separate self. Dr. Papero will discuss the development of the self using Bowen theory and Dr. Flinn will view evolutionary aspects of development of the child and family using his longitudinal research of children and families in Dominica.
